Questions
What is an AEO score?
A single number summarising how ready a page is to be retrieved and cited by AI assistants. It combines crawler access by user agent, presence and correctness of structured data, whether answers sit in extractable passages, and discoverability signals such as sitemap and llms.txt. The number matters less than the ranked list of what is missing.
What score should I aim for?
Above 85 with zero blocked assistant crawlers. Below that, there is usually one structural blocker — a disallowed user agent, no structured data, or content rendered only in JavaScript — worth more than a dozen copy edits.
Is this the same as a Lighthouse or SEO audit?
No. Classical audits grade performance, accessibility, and keyword hygiene. An AEO scorecard grades whether an assistant can fetch the page, understand which entity it is about, and lift a self-contained answer from it. The two overlap only partially.
